3 Pieces of Home Décor Every Bedroom Needs

Unless you’ve worked with an interior designer or have taken the time to carefully curate the bedding and items on display in your bedroom, chances are your “décor” is a mish-mash of items you’ve collected through the years that kind of fit together. Don’t get us wrong -- personal pieces you love are great to put out on display in your home, but with a little more consideration of your room’s overall look, you can use them with key pieces of home décor to create a put-together look for your room rather than a haphazard mix of things you like.

Lighting. Did you choose the lamp beside your bed to complement your bedding or is it a holdover that gives out light so you haven’t given it much thought? A table lamp is an easy way to add functional home décor to your room. Consider adding a lamp with a textured table base or a splash of color to an otherwise neutral bedroom palette.

Decorative Items. This is a catchall phrase for a key element of home décor. Look for items like statues, serving trays, decorative bowls, candleholders and bookcase shelves that fit into the overall look of your room. If you’re going for a beachside feel, consider a coral bowl to complement. Too many decorative items will make a room look cluttered. Consider a mix of picture frames with your favorite photos beside candles or a simple vase. On a bedside table, a small bookcase near your lamp or a vase with flowers will give your room a sophisticated feel.

Wall Art.Art can be intimidating to choose. But a simple piece to bring your eyes above bed level is critical to giving your room a completed, thought-out interior design. Walls without art or mirrors make a room feel unlived in. Look for art that you enjoy looking at, that doesn’t detract from your bedding but rather adds another element to your room. If you struggle finding art, consider mirrors, which can add space to a small room and fill the space on big open walls. Whether added purely for design or also for function, consider a mirror with a decorative frame that matches the design pattern you choose for your room.
